Ndindi Nyoro Exits UDA: Kiharu MP Ditches UDA Party

NAIROBI, KENYA — Kiharu MP ditches UDA; The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party is facing its most severe internal crisis yet after Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro officially announced his exit from the party, declaring that the political vehicle has abandoned its foundational promises to the Kenyan electorate.

Speaking to a charged gathering in his constituency over the weekend, the highly influential lawmaker delivered a blistering assessment of the Kenya Kwanza administration, signaling a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“The Wheelbarrow Has Disappointed Kenyans”

Nyoro, who was a central pillar and key mobilizer for President William Ruto’s presidential campaigns across the country in 2022, stated that the decision to ditch the party’s iconic “wheelbarrow” symbol was reached long ago.

“The UDA party has abandoned Kenyans and that is the reason all of us moved away from the governing party. All of us have left the party. There is no more person on top of a wheelbarrow or taking a wheelbarrow anywhere, here in our place, even across the country,” Nyoro declared. newsportal.co.ke

The lawmaker expressed deep regret over unmet pre-election pacts, noting that his extensive experience on the 2022 campaign trail has made him far more cautious about his next political alliances.

“I campaigned across Kenya in 2022, and we made promises to people. Today, Kenyans are asking where those promises went… that is why I will not rush into another political decision before I know exactly what I am doing,” he added.

Consultations Over a “New Path”

While Nyoro confirmed his complete departure from UDA, he stated that he is currently embarking on nationwide consultations before formally unveiling his next political destination. He emphasized that he will be working with like-minded, progressive leaders across the political divide to chart a new direction focused entirely on public interest rather than the ambitions of top political elites.

“I will not be pushed around. I know my conscience is clear. A leader must never make such an important decision because they are being pushed. Kenyans must be at the centre of every political decision we make,” Nyoro maintained.

A Scathing Attack on Security and Governance

Beyond party politics, the Kiharu legislator took aim at the executive over deteriorating public safety, referencing recent incidents where motorists and leaders were attacked by gangs while law enforcement stood by helplessly.

Defending ordinary police officers, Nyoro blamed top-ranking government officials for misdirecting state security organs. “If a government cannot guarantee security, which is the bare minimum any government should provide, then it is telling Kenyans it cannot offer anything else,” he warned.

What This Means for the Mt. Kenya Block

Nyoro’s departure exposes wide, irreversible fractures within the ruling coalition. As one of the most popular political figures in the mountain region, his absolute rejection of the UDA party leaves the ruling regime structurally exposed in its primary voting block, setting the stage for an intense, unpredictable scramble for the region’s control in the coming months.
